[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 400px; height: 600px; border-left: 10px solid #9E3C33;] Welcome to MUDBLOODS & MURMURS! LAURA NICOLE THOMAS [/style] [style=font-family:times; font-size:10; letter-spacing: 6px; line-height: 2px color:#9E3C33; text-transform:uppercase; font-style: italic; ] you're a wizard, harry CHARACTER FULL NAME: Laura Nicole Thomas NICKNAMES: Lor DATE OF BIRTH: February 7th AGE: 29 GENDER: Female SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight OCCUPATION: Dervish & Bangs Employee BLOODSTATUS: Muggleborn FINANCIAL STATUS: Poor (but comfortable) YEAR: 1978-1985 HOUSE: Hufflepuff Alumni WAND: 11 1/2" Rowan w/ Unicorn Hair ALLEGIANCE: None; but opposes persecution CANON: No Tell Us a little about how you look HEIGHT: 5'10" / 1.8m WEIGHT: 135lbs / 61kg HAIR COLOR: Blonde EYE COLOR: Blue DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Laura never really outgrew the gangly stage after sprouting up to an awkward height. Intense focus, to the point of not realizing someone is speaking to her until they darn near have to knock her off her chair to get her attention. FACE CLAIM: Anja Rubik ATTIRE: She prefers loose fitting clothes that have a tendency to blow in the wind, but will begrudgingly wear tighter fitting attire to work -- especially if she's working on larger devices that could catch her sleeve. She leans towards a mature style, finding that refinement garners more respect than she thinks her demeanor earns her. Fortunately, Laura's not such a klutz anymore; she used to feel like a baby giraffe learning how to walk in a china shop. Though she does not like to be around men who are shorter than her, sometimes opting to slouch or lean against a wall around them, it does not hinder her physicality. Some would note that she's always touching, if not… unintentionally so. She gravitates towards people and is the type to lean in when she's laughing. and then a little about yourself LIKES: 1. The magical world -- really she loves it and still can find herself enchanted by new discoveries. 2. Quiet time -- to work. 3. Solving problems -- she has been teased for it in the past, but she gets really excited with mechanical and mathematical accomplishments. 4. Working with her hands -- which often leads to dirty hands and a smeared cheek, but she likes to get right in there. 5. Broom crafting -- if only she had thought of it sooner; Laura has undertaken studying privately on this subject in the last three years and has managed to make (albeit flying wonky) a functional broom. 6. Rain -- it dampens outside noise and allows people to sit inside and talk. 7. Discussion -- not just small talk, Laura prefers to have philosophical, emotional, or deep conversations. In fact, she has a tendency to check out (glazed eyes and all) when someone is inflicting trivial information on her. 8. Undivided attention -- she's not an attention junky, but when she gets or gives it, she wants close attention. 9. Music/Dancing -- she is usually listening to music when she works, and though she is a wretched dancer, she unabashedly can't help herself. DISLIKES: 1. Being so close to Honeydukes -- it's dangerous for a sweets-lover. 2. Getting interrupted -- she has the tendency to forget what she was doing and not remember until she's already invested in the next thing. 3. The stigmatism of Slytherins -- she does not believe in inherent evil, and thinks it's thick to ignore what virtues a person has. 4. Stereotypes in general -- like Hufflepuffs being the 'nice' ones; whoever thinks that certainly wasn't in the girls' dormitories when they were all synced up. 5. Sticking to a schedule -- she likes working on things on a whim. 6. Being wrong -- it's so embarrassing that she reserves input for when she knows she is one-hundred percent right or another is so unbelievably narrow-minded. 7. Negativity -- that's not to say she's always a bright spot of sunshine, but she can't stand when people are constantly objecting, trying to tear other people down, focusing only on bad things, etc. 8. Closed-Mindedness -- she doesn't mind if a person has been raised a certain way, or only exposed to certain ways of thinking… that's just how they've been nurtured, but she believes that it is a person's choice to object to considering new ideas and forward thinking. BOGGART: Lethifold… after an ex-boyfriend told her about these creatures, she has woken frightened a number of times because she has become entangled in her blanket. ERISED: Recognition from a massive audience. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Despite being a fully developed, and thankfully functioning adult, Laura can still be very unsure of herself in new situations. She prefers one-on-one interactions, and though it might seem like she has boldly approached someone, it is usually the person sitting on their own. This uncertainty is not born of shyness, per se, but trained into her because she gets terribly self-conscious when she has been called out on her behavior. She will choose not to interact with someone who is so critical, but it still hangs on her mind when navigating the unknown. When she is not stressing out, and with someone who will not point out all her faults (according to them), she can be incredibly light-hearted and goofy. She likes prodding people and giving them a hard time, but she will only do so with those she likes. Those she doesn't she will ignore; unless they have hurt the feelings of someone she cares for… then she will go out of her way for retribution. You leave her and hers alone, she'll leave you alone. This vindictive trait rears from her protectiveness over those she's close to. But that does not mean she is peaches and cream to them either. She loves to history your family and such PARENTS: Merylin Grant-Thomas (53; optometrist) & Charles "Chuck" Thomas (55; columnist) SIBLINGS: None. PETS: Cooper (the pooper); a two-year-old chocolate labrador… who is not magical at all. In fact, Laura has fashioned a collar to detect when he is (actually) lost, because that dog is hopelessly stupid. OVERALL HISTORY: Laura was born to muggle parents who just didn't understand her. Not in the way of always secretly knowing she was meant for magic… no, that day came as quite a shock to her. But she was born to parents who were both scholarly. One medically, the other literary. While they probably would have been happy if she had at least taken after one of them, Laura was an odd duck from the very start. She spent more time taking things apart than fixing anything (everyone has to start somewhere). She was terrible in school, which didn't change much once she went to a magical one, and she could never manage to feign interest… even to help her future career. Her parents were very pushy, but no amount of strictness could enforce studying and good grades. Perhaps the most aggravating thing for two career-minded individuals was that Laura is far from stupid. They type who tests well, but still refuses to pull the marks. If she cares about something, she has always sat at long lengths learning about it, but that rarely coincided with her school lessons. She can apply logic to how things work like nobody's business, and thus was born her years hanging around Dervish and Banges. She was always fascinating by the things that would show up there, and (magic aside) was enthralled once they were made to work again. So it was that she managed to land an apprenticeship after school and no formal experience under her belt. Working for over a decade at a little shop, in a little town, and unable to get far from school, certainly has not exploited her talents, but the eventual travel and discovery of going abroad to collect profit-likely pieces has appealed to her. And constantly tinkering, usually without having to focus on one thing if she can manage to get another one working, fits her style of work habits. The pay is not what her parents would hope of an inventive mind, but her established adulthood has finally reduced the amount of nagging associated with returning to the muggle world. Since submerging into the magical crevices around the world, Laura has not thought twice about going back. True, it has not landed her with a dream career and it's rife with danger from the internal war… but she could not imagine missing out on all that is has to offer. It's magic after all! She's experiencing things only a fraction of people get to in their lifetime, and it's not like the war will stop existing just because she chooses to ignore it. now for the person behind the character ALIAS: Shades AGE: 26 EXPERIENCE: 9yrs.
