HENDRICK MAYNARD CARVER [/style] [style=font-family:times; font-size:10; letter-spacing: 6px; line-height: 2px color:#9E3C33; text-transform:uppercase; font-style: italic; ] you're a wizard, harry CHARACTER FULL NAME: Hendrick Maynard Carver NICKNAMES: Henry DATE OF BIRTH: July 6th AGE: 39 GENDER: Male SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight OCCUPATION: Alchemy Professor & Potioneer, Certified Healer (though not practicing) BLOODSTATUS: Halfblood FINANCIAL STATUS: Middle Class YEAR: 1968-1975 HOUSE: Ex-Ravenclaw WAND: 12" Walnut w/ Dragon Heartstring ALLEGIANCE: Hogwarts & the Ministry CANON: No Tell Us a little about how you look HEIGHT: 6'2" WEIGHT: 190 HAIR COLOR: Black EYE COLOR: Blue DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: He is between toned and muscular. Intertwining Snakes form a caduceus on his back. Gray riddles his dark hair and beard. He almost always has a full, groomed beard and mustache. He sometimes wears his glasses. FACE CLAIM: Ben Hill ATTIRE: Henry has an odd sense of style. He has a relationship with knit and tweed that many people don't understand. He is often seen carrying a bulging satchel, hanging at his side. Usually it is filled with potions, his notes, and other miscellaneous items. His oldest son claims that it's just the same as carrying a purse, but this has not deterred him from carrying his 'man's bag'. However, he does secretly accessorize to have the appropriate bag that fits with whatever he's wearing. No, he does not have a separate closet for his bags… there are three of them, all pretty much the same, save for being brown, black, and gray. When he returns to working, Henry dresses very professionally, but will dress casually when he is out of his classroom. However, he still leans towards slacks in most situations. He rarely dresses younger than his age and when he does it's usually by mistake, or because his eldest son's clothes have gotten mixed in with his. Talk about a hysteric temper-tantrum from a kid damned near as big as him. and then a little about yourself LIKES: 1. Writing notes in his journal -- he prefers writing 'longhand', rather than implementing a magically jotting quill, and does so with a pen. He just likes how it flows and looks better. 2. Reading -- he really hasn't given himself much time for recreational reading anymore, but he does love it. 3. A casual drink -- when he's not on the job, of course. 4. Yellow -- it's… cheerful. 5. Studying -- it would be kind of hard to have accumulated the amount of knowledge he has stored in his head if he didn't. 6. Romance -- he never re-married, but Henry loves having someone he can dote on and be affectionate towards. 7. Antiques -- the are the corporeal example of his love for history. 8. Dark and Quiet Spaces -- it helps him concentrate and really sink into his work. 9. Fatherhood -- he's oblivious to how terrible he is at it, because he genuinely loves his children and thinks he would put them before anything else in his life. DISLIKES: 1. When his students don't study -- if they're bothering to take his elective, shouldn't they be interested in the subject? 2. Failure -- and with his line of research, there is an awful lot of it. 3. Opposition -- he really just doesn't like getting into confrontations at all. 4. Aggravating situations -- nothing can provoke his moodiness faster. 5. Making the first move -- he has a terrible fear of being rejected (used to be his boggart). 6. Discarding things of sentimental value -- whether it be his oldest sweater with two holes worn in the hem, or his son's first broom (which doesn't fly anymore), he's eye-roll-inducingly sentimental. 7. Being given advice or told what to do -- he'll carry out his job, he's a very hard worker, but he has gotten a lot of advice over the years for dealing with his sons. And even if he should have listened to much of it, he tunes out anyone who pulls the superior parent card on him. 8. His youngest having been placed in Slytherin -- he does not object, but he will when he finds out Nick is boasting about becoming a death eater. BOGGART: One of his sons stumbling out from whence it came and dropping down dead, inexplicably. ERISED: His boys happy. OVERALL PERSONALITY: There is nothing particularly extreme about Henry. Many would note just how balanced and composed he seems. However, he is very unpredictable and can sway easily to different moods, even in their subtle expression. For the most part he keeps feelings to himself, but this feeds into his self-absorption. Henry is terrified of getting hurt by another. For this reason he will invest very little of himself into a person he has known for a short time. Because he relies on few, he tends to be concerned about himself first and foremost. Others need not feel sorry for him, because he’ll feel sorry enough for himself. However, that doesn't mean that he is not very loyal to the friends and family he does have close ties to. He will go the extra mile to maintain old bonds before forming new ones. It is difficult to lose him after he has become attached. Though Henry seems very mellow most of the time, regardless of his changeable moods, he is easily shifted. He is overly emotional, and extremely touchy, but he does not have many outlets to allow him the freedom of constancy. This does, however, make him very intuitive and in touch with tender emotions. He is extremely romantic and loving. Once he breaks past his cautious personality and trusts another, his positive aspects will come pouring out. He is caring, dependable, sympathetic, and protective. And so long as a person does not mind that he needs few, but needs them fully, he is an asset to be had. He does not let things go easily, which can be good and bad, and he makes shrewd observations, for which he comes up with imaginative solutions. He is very responsive to the world around him and adapts as necessary. As proof will become evident later, Henry is extremely determined (and subsequently stubborn). His wife certainly warned him before she left him, but he selfishly kept on with what he wanted to do and continued even after she left. He was deeply hurt by this, but he did not attempt to go after her. A truer example of his lack of empathy comes from the testing he does. While starting off with samples, he turned to live testing about seven years ago. Though he has good intentions, if anyone found out he'd probably be a Death-Eather's wet dream. It's not that he's trying to hide the direction of his progress, he's just extremely private about his life. history your family and such PARENTS: Christine Carver (58; stay-at-home mother) & Mikhal Williamsen (61; profession unknown) SIBLINGS: Aydin Asker (34; cop) STEP-FATHER: Adrian Asker (60; businessman) EX-WIFE: Adrienne Elenore Deniau (42; Ex-Beauxbatons) CHILDREN: Jackson Carver (18; Ravenclaw) & Nicholas Carver (16; Slytherin) PETS: He likes animals a lot, and they tend to like his gentle nature, but he doesn't have time to take care of a pet. *nods sagely* …kids are a different matter. OVERALL HISTORY: Henry was born in Amsterdam to a muggle mother and wizard father. On his mother's part, this is speculative because he was never involved in Henry's life and was little more than a blip in his mother's life. However, when Henry would receive his Hogwarts letter, she drew inferences on the man who had disappeared into oblivion. Long before Henry found out he was of magical blood, Henry's mother returned to England. He was about three, then, and by the time he was five she had Henry's younger brother with a Turkish national. Adrian Asker was in business and though he did not marry Henry's mother, he acted as a father figure to him as well as his own son. However, always of a matriarchal mindset, Henry opted to keep his mother's last name when his dad encouraged him to change it. He might have had a different surname from his brother, but Henry was extremely close to his younger brother. When it came to his first year at Hogwarts, he hated it so much that he begged to not go back. He did not want to be away from his family. Fortunately, a twelve-year-old doesn't have much say over the course of their future, and Henry was forced to return and he slowly began to make new friends that made the separation easier. His school career was still very studious, however, so most of these individuals are intellectuals who have gone off to different parts of the country to follow careers. It came as little surprise to his instructors that he should perform well on his NEWTs in Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He was encouraged to become a Healer and shortly after graduation he was accepted as a Healer Trainee on the first floor of St. Mungo's (Creature-Induced Injuries). But Henry's interest was deeper than to treat injuries. He was fascinated by the abilities of magical creatures and (probably stemming from the disappointment that his brother could not join him in this world) he began to study the genetic structure of magical beings. While he was skilled in crafting remedies for creature ailments, he not only hopes to find cures to their afflictions but also harnessing positive strengths of magical beings and possibly incorporating them into muggles. This has been an ongoing venture, which was in very early stages when he was this young. Three years into his training, Henry met Adrienne Deniau when she was brought to St. Mungo's during a performance tour from France's wizarding community. It would be her last run, as she opted to settle down with the promising young Healer. A year later they had their first son, Jack. As far as Henry was concerned, she was a good mother and he was happy with his life. Of course, he worked long hours on professional and private undertakings. In the same year his second son was born, Henry completed his training as a Healer (*). To the surprise of many, he did not apply for a Healer post. From home he worked on his testing and became a private portioner to earn an income. This did not end up sufficient, and so he decided on a job he thought would afford him more private time and varying years off to do what he actually wanted. His wife was furious with his decision to accept a professing position in Alchemy at Hogwarts and left her family the next year. Now a single father, Henry really had no choice but to commute through Hogsmeade when he was offered a year that an Alchemy class was in demand, and on his years off he would pack up his sons to travel the world to discover new approaches to magic and unknown discoveries. Such has been the alternating lifestyles until this year, for which he has been invited back to Hogwarts. Of course, once both of his boys could live at Hogwarts at the same time as him, he opted to live at the castle as well. (* I've based the the minimum amount of training on representation of Madame Pomfrey. She was cast by a 59 year old woman in the first film (and I actually got the sense that this was more logical than her younger seeming description in the book)… anyway, that would have made her born in 1932 and she is known to have been active at least from 1954. Anyway, that would be the maximum of five years training. If this is problematic I can adjust. Just thought it a good idea to explain, because five years of medical training before being 'good to go' makes me go o.o) now for the person behind the character ALIAS: Shades AGE: 26 EXPERIENCE: 9 yrs.
